How To Make a Herb Napkin Ring

Hosting a dinner party can be an exciting prospect, but it can also be overwhelming with all the details to consider. One way to add a special touch to your table setting is by creating herb napkin rings. Not only do they add an organic feel to the tablescape, but they also infuse a pleasant aroma that enhances the dining experience.

Gather Your Supplies

The first step in making herb napkin rings is gathering all the necessary supplies. You will need:

  • Floral wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Scissors
  • Twine or ribbon
  • Fresh herbs (such as rosemary or thyme)

Make sure to choose herbs that are sturdy enough to withstand being wired and will hold their shape well.

Create the Base

Measure out a piece of floral wire to fit around your rolled napkins. Use the wire cutters to cut the wire to size. Take one end of the wire and form a small loop, twisting it around the remaining wire to secure it in place. This loop will act as your napkin ring's anchor. Next, wrap the wire around a cylindrical object (such as a spice jar) to create a circular shape. Once you've created the desired size, twist the two ends of the wire together, securing them in place with another loop.

Prepare the Herbs

Cut the stems of the herbs to the desired length, leaving enough length to tuck into the wire circle. Remove any excess leaves from the bottom of the stem where it will be inserted into the wire. Bundle the herbs together tightly, using twine or ribbon to secure them in place. Once bundled, trim off any excess twine/ribbon.

Attach the Herbs to the Wire Base

Place the herb bundle on top of the wire circle, ensuring that the stems are facing downward. Using smaller pieces of wire, wrap the wire around the herb bundle and twist to secure it to the wire base. Continue wrapping until the herb bundle is completely secured to the wire base. Trim the excess wire using wire cutters.

Final Touches

Fluff up the herbs, adjusting their position as needed to ensure that the napkin ring looks balanced. Finally, add your rolled napkins to the herb napkin rings.
